Accommodation in Rhyl
Rhyl is a very popular holiday resort on the North Coast, by the mouth of the river Clwyd. It is famous as “Sunny Rhyl” and justifies its title with an average of over 300 sunny days a year. The town can be reached from Chester by train in 40 minutes and from London in 4 hours. In that short time one changes from the smoke and grime of big cities to the airiness, sunshine and frolic of this gay resort.
Apart from its sunshine, Rhyl is famous for its glorious beaches, which offer safe bathing to thousands. For those who prefer fresh water, however, the Rhyl swimming pool is a fine affair, 100 yards long, with a capacity of 400, and seating accommodation for 500. A promenade, which has recently been improved, runs along the front, and central along its length is the Pier, with the vast Amphitheatre concert hall at its base. West of the Pier are the marine gardens, a well-designed public amenity, and west again, near the Clwyd, is the 40-acre Marine lake, 4 feet deep, which makes pleasure boating a popular pastime.
Rhyl has also a fine botanical garden. For golfers there is a good 18-hole course between Rhyl and Prestatyn, while tennis courts and bowling greens are open to visitors. The angler finds Rhyl a good spot, either for coarse fishing or for salmon and trout in the Clwyd or Elwy, as well as in Llanefydd Reservoir, while the more leisurely visitor is well catered for with cinemas, ballrooms and amusement park.
The town and its surroundings are spacious and airy. The surrounding country, especially up the vale of Clwyd, is attractive, and the neighbouring towns are worth a visit, especially St. Asaph with its cathedral. From the Forydd Bridge, across to Clwyd, there is a fine view up the vale.
